Greetings everyone, I hope this early Saturday morning finds you well! I’m sitting here with a fresh cup of coffee waiting for the sun to come up just a little bit more so I can leave for a short hike up to Travertine Falls.
I apologize for my recent absence for the last few days. Read on to find out where I’ve been.
Excuse #1: Moving
First and foremost, I’m moving out of Brandy’s house starting Friday, May 7 so most of the time I’ve had outside of working my full time day job has been spent packing up the few things I have here.
I have about 9 of those large,18 gallon storage tubs packed up and ready to be loaded into my car Thursday evening. I don’t have much furniture- a small bookshelf, drawing table, a little shelf that has served as a TV stand for the last year, and the computer desk at which I’m sitting now. I also have a couch that was delivered in a box last week, and the bed I’m sleeping on before I move it in less than a week, but that’s really about it. I still do have about another tub’s worth of stuff to pack up but most of it is daily use stuff that I’ll have to wait until Thursday night/Friday morning to pack up.
Excuse #2: Camping Planning
In the middle of packing for the move, I’ve also been making plans with Alan to take that elusive camping trip. In my post Camping Trip: Coming Soon! I mentioned that we were on the verge of finalizing a trip a week after my move (the 14-16) but Alan’s wife has a class that weekend so he will be on baby duty.
We decided instead to push it another week, to May 21-23. In the meantime, I still have gear to obtain, even beyond the gear I will be renting and borrowing. I have been doing my research on that gear in an effort to make sure I have it in time for the trip.
Excuse #3: Migration to a Self Hosted Website
As I mentioned at some point before, I’ve gained a few followers on this free WordPress site. I’m posting more frequently and am quickly running out of space on the free plan. As of this writing, I’m at 72% capacity before I’m going to have to upgrade my plan.
I do pay for hosting through GoDaddy for a couple of other websites so it looks like I’m getting myself kicked off of the free WordPress site and will be transitioning to a self hosted option.
This means I was able to register an actual domain, instead of the unwieldy nmwanderful.travel.blog, and I had more flexibility as far as theme availability and plug-in options.
However that means that at some point in the very new future, this website will no longer be updated. I will hold on to it indefinitely so that newcomers will be able to find me on my new website, but as of May 15, I will no longer be updating this website.
Instead, my posts will be made on my all new website, www.WanderingNewMexican.com.
The transition has already begun, I’ve already exported all of my previous posts to that new site, and am in the process of uploading the media library (all of the amazing pictures I’ve taken on my journey that I’ve posted on this website.)
I’ve also created a Facebook page (vanity URL coming as soon as the page is eligible) as well as an Instagram account where you can follow me for more frequent updates.
Thank You
Again, I can’t thank you all enough for following me on my journey. This last year and a quarter has been amazing, from meeting Brandy to all the traveling I was able to do with her, to the amazing friendships I have, to the amazing things I was able to see.
2021 looks to continue to be an amazing year. With plans already cemented for a camping trip, fluid plans for an extensive camping/hiking trip through Southern Utah/Northern Arizona, and I’m looking at a potential trip to New Orleans in October.
Every single person that comes to my website is very much appreciated. Thank you all so much and I’ll be back very soon with a hiking report from Travertine Falls!
-Phil
