Website Changes

I noticed I had a handful of views the other day. I’m guessing it was my son after I had directed him here for some reason… I don’t remember why. I know Veronica and Alan visit the site regularly, Alan even signed up for e-mail notifications when I update the site. Vern, did you too?

Anyway, the only reason I say this is there might be an off chance that at some point, some poor unfortunate soul will use just the right search term and happen upon my stream of consciousness diary type blog and be stuck muddling through a mess. So, that said, I’ve made a couple of changes to the website.

  • Menu – I recently discovered the glory of adding categories to the main menu on WordPress. I’ve created categories for trip reports, hiking trips, food specific posts, and planning posts. Those cateogries are all neatly nested under the “blog” menu up top.
  • Photo Diary – I cleaned up the photo diary, putting the entries in reverse chronological order (most recent at the top… that’s right, isn’t it? Reverse chronological order is oldest at the bottom? anyway…) I also reduced the main part to two columns and got rid of the obtrusive slideshow featured image. No need for it, those pictures are available in the diary entries.
  • Future posts – In researching how to blog (for a completely different reason) I came across advice about breaking the text up with headers, especially with longer entries. That makes sense, someone poring over a 1600+ word essay detailing the temperature of the tiled floor in the hotel at which we stayed in Cortez, CO, might be a little… tedious. So, going forward, my posts will be sectioned out into easier to digest chunks. In fact, I’m very close to posting my first entry in this new style. I just need to find a featured image to use…

Finally, I do have to mention that I’m nearing the 50% storage capacity mark on my free WordPress account, meaning before too long, I’m either going to have to upgrade to a paid account, or delete pictures, depending on where I see this blog going. Seeing as how I started this blog for my own personal use to memorialize my travels, I’m going to have a hard time deleting them, but I think I’ll have just as hard a time paying to store more photos…. We will see.

For anybody that does show up on my site, and continues to return, thank you. I appreciate you. For anyone that DOESN’T come to my site, or that won’t return? Well, I appreciate you too. This blog isn’t about you. πŸ™‚

Post from Carlsbad coming real soon!
